Best Operating System For Mid 2011 Mac Mini
what's the most current / best os i can run on a mac mini (built mid 2011). it has 8gb ram & 480gb available hard drive memory.
It can be difficult to get the hard drive seated correctly such that the antenna plate fits in place correctly. If the screw holes don't line up with those on the hard drive, make sure that the two pins that are in the back of the hard drive are properly seated in the holes at the back of the case, above the housing for the second hard drive. In the worst case, that in which High Sierra is the final OS that will run on the 2011 Mac mini, you would be safe for another nearly three years. In the best case you can run even longer. I’m still running a couple of 2009 Mac minis on El Capitan (their last OS) and they are still getting security updates until next year, for a 9 year life.

was running mojave thus could not upgrade/update beyond GarageBand 11 v 6.0.5 (428.5). a few days ago i learned it's possible for the mac mini described above, to be upgraded past mojave os. now this mac mini is running El Capitan.
The issue so far; the version of El CAPITAN installed did not come with a newer version of Garageband than mohave...
- is this normal, or did i miss a step in the process of downloading & installation?
- do i need to to install yet a newer os ?
- how far up the line of operating systems can this 2011 mac mini support?
- whats the max. ram memory a mid 2011 mac mini can handle?
anyone inclined to lend their advice will be sincerely appreciated...

Upgrading to El Capitan
You can upgrade to El Capitan from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. El Capitan can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
Upgrading to El Capitan
To upgrade to El Capitan you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download El Capitan from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. El Capitan is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
